Does Mobile Friendly Really Matter?

Only if you want your business to survive.

In today’s day and age, there are few things more frustrating than trying to access information while on the go, only to land on a website that’s not mobile friendly.  The text doesn’t fit on the page, navigation doesn’t work, the phone number is nowhere to be found – and that’s if the page even manages to load.  This type of experience creates the perception that the company is behind the times – or simply doesn’t care enough about its business or customers to make its website usable by the countless number of people who access the web almost entirely via mobile devices.

You may be thinking that the world is just a little too impatient these days – and you may be right.  But that doesn’t change the fact that giving consumers what they want, where and when they want it, is critically important if you want your business to survive and thrive.

Mobile is no longer a maybe; it’s a must.

In April 2015, Google warned webmasters that rankings would suffer if their websites weren’t optimized for mobile.  Thousands of webmasters scrambled to upgrade old websites to make them mobile friendly, while others chose to wait it out, thinking that maybe it didn’t matter all that much.

Seven months later, it’s clear that going mobile is no longer something that might be a good idea.  It’s a must – not only because your search rankings will suffer, but because the number of mobile users is growing exponentially.  If they can’t find you, or get the information they need when they do, you will lose out.

This is serious stuff and the time to act is now.  Did you know that according to Bank of America’s annual Trends in Consumer Mobility Report, 71% of those surveyed said they either sleep with or next to their mobile phones?  What’s more, upon awaking in the morning, guess what more and more of them are doing first?  Yep, checking their mobile phones.

Fear of Missing Out

Today’s consumers suffer from what’s called, FOMA – fear of missing out.  The only cure is staying constantly connected, which they are doing very well.  You too, might have FOMA and don’t even realize it as accessing information via mobile is becoming second nature.
