Amazon & Walmart’s Main Web Traffic Sources

Hey everyone, I recently came across an interesting post that highlighted where Amazon and Walmart’s online visitors predominantly come from. A big shoutout to Hrant Kuroian for sharing that!

The data reveals that a large portion of their traffic is direct. In other words, people simply type “Amazon.com” or “Walmart.com” into their browser and start shopping. For Walmart, almost 44% of their online traffic is generated through Google Search. That’s noteworthy, but let’s contextualize it.

Why This Matters for Smaller Businesses
Amazon and Walmart are household names with brand recognition that most businesses can only aspire to. But what about everyone else? The startups, the local stores, the small to medium enterprises?

Some Eye-Opening Statistics:
68% of online experiences begin with a search engine.
SEO drives over 1,000% more traffic than organic social media.
53.3% of all website traffic comes from organic search.

The Key Takeaway
If a retail behemoth like Walmart depends on search for nearly half of its online traffic, just think about how crucial a well-executed SEO strategy is for the rest of us. So, while it’s interesting to see how the industry giants operate, let’s keep focus on what this means for smaller businesses. Investing in SEO isn’t just advisable; it’s essential. And with the potential to drive 1,000% more traffic than social media, it’s an opportunity you can’t afford to miss.
